HOW IT HAPPENED
Maura Kane and Dominique Papa scored a goal apiece for the Chargers, as UMass Boston saw their non-conference winless streak extend to nine games (0-8-1).
Kane bent her corner kick attempt onto the goal line and it bounced off of UMass Boston goalie Alyssa Fugiel (Easthampton, Mass.) and in, for a 1-0 Colby-Sawyer lead at 10:21.
Colby-Sawyer had a great chance to increase the lead late in the first half on another corner kick. Papa sent a ball into the box that was headed by freshman Abbie Sansoucy. The ball looked like it would find the corner of the net, but Fugiel made a spectacular diving save to keep the match at 1-0.
Papa added a header goal off of a Sansoucy cross to give the hosts a two-goal cushion with less than four minutes to play.
Fugiel reached double-digits for saves in her second-straight game, as the freshman keeper stopped 10 of the 12 shots she faced on target.
UMass Boston was outshot 21-11 for the contest and 12-5 in shots on goal.
Senior Natasha Stibor (San Francisco, Calif.) led the Beacons with three shots, while Alexandria Levesque (Metheun, Mass.), Elisa Brooks (San Diego, Calif.), Kerri Alexander (Carver, Mass.), Cassie Levesque (Metheun, Mass.) and Stibor all recorded one shot on goal.
