Stibor's Late Goal Lifts Women's Soccer Over UMass Dartmouth 3-2

Box Score

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Junior transfer Natasha Stibor (San Francisco, Calif.) scored her first goal as a Beacon with 12.6 seconds remaining in regulation to lift UMass Boston women's soccer (4-2-2, 2-0 Little East) to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over UMass Dartmouth women's soccer (3-5, 1-1 Little East) Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.

The junior midfielder poked home the ball amidst a scramble in front of the net off of a free kick for her first goal as a Beacon, to help UMass Boston earn their 10th consecutive victory over their intra-state rivals. Reigning Little East Conference Rookie of the Week Marina Kelly (Whitman, Mass.) sent a booming free kick off the hands of UMass Dartmouth goalie Madison Boucher and off the post, before Stibor just barely pushed the ball over the goal line, amidst a slew of Beacons and Corsairs.

Senior Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) carried the offense through the first 89 minutes, as the senior scored a pair of goals to help the Beacons rally from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits. Ledin's two goals gave her 87 goals and 196 points in 71 career contests.

Kelly recorded a pair of assists for the Beacons, who have now won three in a row, after starting the season 1-2-2.

Senior goalie Dani Perkins (Murrieta, Calif.) moved to 3-0 on the season by stopping two of the four shots she faced. Perkins' scoreless streak to start the season ended at 247:02, as the Corsairs put the Beacons in an early hole.

Maura Gonsalves scored a goal and added an assist for the Corsairs, while Erica Farias posted her second goal of the season.

Boucher finished just shy of her season-high with nine saves, while her three goals allowed tied a season-high.

UMass Boston earned a 19-12 advantage in shots and 12-4 edge in shots on goal. The two teams combined for just three corner kicks, with UMB owning a 3-2 edge.

Farias gave the Corsairs their first lead of the contest at 22:02, when the sophomore received a cross from Gonsalves and knocked it home for an early 1-0 advantage.

Ledin answered back for UMass Boston right before halftime, as the senior took a pass from Kelly and slipped it by Boucher for the first of her two tallies.

Gonsalves scored just over 20 minutes later, when the Little East Conference point and goal leader, hit a floater from just outside the box-that made it's way into the right-side of the netting.

With under 10 minutes to play, Ledin was taken down in the box and calmly knocked home her third career penalty kick in three chances, to tie the game at 2-2 at 82:59.

Ledin's second goal set up some late-game drama, as both teams created good chances in the next seven minutes.

Kelly and Kara Peters (Feeding Hills, Mass.) both sent shots just wide, while UMass Dartmouth earned their first corner kick of the game with less than three minutes to play.

With 32 seconds to play in regulation, UMass Dartmouth was called for a foul 35-yards outside their own goal. Kelly calmly sent a shot towards the far post that bounced off the hands of Boucher and off the post. In the ensuing scramble, multiple players got their feet on the ball, with Stibor ramming the ball home through several Corsairs legs at the opposite post.

UMass Boston will return home for a season-long, three-game homestand Tuesday when they host Salem State University at 3:30 p.m.
