BOSTON, Mass.—Four players earned their first victories of the season, as UMass Boston women's tennis (1-3) picked up their first win of the year with a 9-0 blanking of Eastern Nazarene College (2-6), Wednesday afternoon at the B.C. High Tennis Courts.
Junior Logan Smith (Southwick, Mass.) and sophomores Kelsey Shea (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and Kathleen Conroy (Quincy, Mass.) each picked up their first two victories of the year, to help UMass Boston extend their winning streak to seven in a row over the visiting Lions.
Sophomore Vicky Woytowicz (Springfield, Mass.) teamed up with Conroy at number three doubles for her first win, as UMass Boston snapped a seven-match losing streak-dating back to October 22 of last year.
Freshman Kristy Garcia (Miami, Fla.) and Martina Daelli (Florence, Italy) also earned a pair of victories in the win, while junior Nurcin Celebi (Istanbul, Turkey) wrapped up the win with a marathon victory at number six singles.
UMass Boston opened up the match with their strongest start by far this year, earning a clean sweep of doubles action.
Co-captains Smith and Shea cleaned up at number two doubles, as the pair earned their first doubles win of the year with a dominating 8-1 victory over Jordan Cressman and Alecia Tubbs.
Conroy and Woytowicz picked up the Beacons first win of the year at number three doubles, as the pair cruised to an 8-3 win over the Lions' Hannah Lariviere and Bethany Mohnkern.
In the closest doubles match of the day, Garcia and Daelli overcame an early deficit to score an 8-4 victory over Lindsey Steelman and Tressa Burrello.
The Beacons carried the momentum over into singles play, as they captured all six singles matches, with just one match going to a tiebreak.
Shea put the Beacons within one point of their first victory of the year when she picked up a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory over Tubbs at fourth-flight singles.
UMass Boston clinched the win at first-flight singles, as Garcia overcame another early deficit, to take a 6-4, 6-0 win over Steelman.
Conroy pushed the lead to 6-0 at number five singles, as the sophomore grabbed a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lariviere.
The Beacons quickly tacked on another point, as Daelli downed Burrello 6-2, 6-1 at number two singles.
Smith pushed the lead to 8-0, when she earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Cressman at third-flight singles.
In the longest match of the afternoon, Celebi held off Mohnkern 6-2, 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreak victory to clinch the match and the 9-0 team win.

Stephanie McKenna (Amherst, N.H.) made her season-debut for the Beacons, as she fell 8-5 in an exhibition match.
UMass Boston will look to earn their first winning streak of the year Saturday, when the Beacons host Plymouth State University at 1 p.m. The match will be the Beacons' Little East Conference home opener.
