BOSTON, Mass. – John Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) unloaded six goals and picked-up one assist to lead men's lacrosse (4-4) to a 19-7 non-conference win at Emerson College Saturday afternoon at The Field at Rotch Playground.

A wild flurry in the first two quarters put the Beacons in total control of Saturday's contest as they fired off six straight to take a 6-0 lead.  Emerson would then score a combined five goals over the final 12:21 of the second, while the Beacons netted three more to go into the halftime break with a 9-5 lead. 

Powers day officially got underway when he scored the first goal of the second quarter for the Beacons at 14:40.  Prior to that, UMass Boston saw five different players find the back of the Lions cage, with the first coming from Donny Delpha (Walpole, Mass.).  After Delpha it was Dino Flori (Watertown, Mass.), Nick Weiss (Westfield, Mass.), Ryan McGoff (Charlestown, Mass.) and Dom Fichera (Scituate, Mass.) who each netted one score to put UMass Boston in total control of Saturday's contest.

In the second quarter Tommy Petitti (Quincy, Mass.) fired off two goals for the Beacons to help them maintain a comfortable five-goal lead.  After the break, Noah Ellis (Hingham, Mass.) and Powers combined for two goals a-piece in the third to push the Beacons lead to 12-5.  The fourth quarter was dominated by Powers as he netted three of the team's seven goals. 

Derek Froio (Cohasset, Mass.) started and ended the fourth quarter with a goal, while Fichera and Phil Truong (Quincy, Mass.) also got in on the action to help the Beacons end a two-game skid.

UMass Boston dominated all afternoon outshooting their opponent 42-26 with Craig Frehill (Norwell, Mass.) and AJ Collette (West Springfield, Mass.) posting a combined eight stops respectively.  The Beacons also held a 32-20 advantage in groundballs, and forced a total of 18 Emerson turnovers.  Truong capped off his strong day with a game-high eight groundballs, while Tim Milch (Marshfield, Mass.) forced two of the Beacons 12 caused turnovers.    

On the faceoff "X" the Beacons were nearly perfectly finish 22-for-29 and were also 7-for-8 on clear attempts.

Lacrosse returns to action on Wednesday when they host Nichols College at 3:30 p.m.
