WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Less than 12 hours after a tough loss to McDaniel College, the Beacons woke up Thursday morning to play an impromptu doubleheader as they faced Ripon College (Wis.) and Washington College (Md.).  The Beacons (4-2) rallied in the bottom of the ninth to down Ripon by the final of 2-1, but then fell to Washington by the final of 3-1.

In the opener, the Beacons fell into a late 1-0 hole following a solo-shot by the Red Hawks in the top half of the ninth inning. The Beacons would hold Ripon to just the one run as they stepped up to the plate in the bottom half of the inning.

Sophomore Jamill Moquette (Boston, Mass.) would lead off the crucial inning with a single to center field.  Matt Consiglio then put the tying run in the score position on a bunt.  Putting the Beacons in a game-winning situation was Jack DeBiase who laid down perfect sacrifice bunt. 

After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Dominic Morbidelli (Oakland, Calif.) was told to put on a helmet as a pinch hitter.  With one out on the scoreboard, the freshman fell into drilled a single through the left side which drove home two run to give the Beacons the 2-1 victory.

Limiting Ripon to the lone run was junior Michael Boughton (New Britain, Conn.) who went 8 2/3 innings.  The righty allowed just five hits, while also striking out six and not walking a single Red Hawk.  After the home run in the ninth the Beacons turned to Tyler Kapushinski (New Britain, Conn.) who closed out the top of the ninth to set-up the Beacons game-winning situation. 

In the nightcap Washington rode a strong pitching performance by Joe Kearney-Argow who went seven complete innings.  On the day he tallied five strikeouts and allowed the lone run on seven hits.  Steve Cameron and Shane Mattingly closed out the final two innings with Mattingly getting the save. 

Driving in two of Washington's runs was Sean Connole on single to the left field which proved to be the deciding hit as he gave his team a 3-1 lead. 

For the Beacons they combined for nine hits in the contest.  Collin Keefer led the team with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate.  On the hill Ryan Augustine (Burlington Conn.) went five innings and totaled two strikeouts. 

Baseball returns to action tomorrow when they face Roger Williams University at noon.
