BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts of Boston women's tennis team had an impressive home opener as they defeated Newbury College (0-2) by the final score of 9-0 Saturday afternoon on the Boston College High School Tennis Courts.

The Beacons (1-3) dispatched all their opponents in strong individual and double performances.  Starting off the afternoon with a win was the duo of Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA) and Wendy Steinman (Dudley, MA), who recorded an 8-2 win at first doubles.

Samantha Counts (Bridgewater, MA) and Hieu Nguyen (Dorchester, MA) would follow suit with an 8-4 win over their own.  Newcomers Taraneh Farhangmehr (Newton, MA) and Katherine Perkins (Dennis, MA) gave the Beacons a 3-0 lead, following their win at third doubles.

Moving into singles play, Kloczewiak continued her winning ways, with her 6-1, 6-1 decision over Kristen Conners.  From there Counts would go on to earn a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alexandra Derderian.

The toughest match of the day came at third singles, when Steinman had to force a super tie-breaker before defeating Jennifer Swafford.  After that the Beacons cruised through their last three opponents to secure the non-conference win.

Women's tennis returns to action next Thursday when they travel to Eastern Nazarene College for a 3:30 p.m. match
