BOSTON, MA (January 19, 2026)-- The UMass Boston track and field team opened the new year at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Challenge on Sunday at The Track at New Balance, where first-year Areno Saint-Victor Fabian broke the school record in the men's weight throw.
Men's Highlights
- Saint-Victor delivered a breakout performance, recording a mark of 16.36m to break the men's weight throw school record and rank third in the LEC.
- Junior Justin Riley and freshman Omar Mishal both competed in the 60m hurdles. Riley posted a personal-best time of 8.76 seconds, while Mishal made his collegiate debut with a time of 9.16 seconds.
- The Beacons recorded two personal bests in the 400m dash from Elaijah Monterio (51.61) and Daniel Thomas (54.34).
- Liam Feliz, Thomas, and Riley also clocked personal bests in the 200m dash, with Riley in 22.51 seconds, Feliz finishing in 22.81 seconds and Thomas in 23.64 seconds.
- In the 800-m dash, first-year Noah Gendenbien and Vincent Caruso posted personal bests, with Gendenbien finishing in 2:06.55 and Caruso in 2:09.95.
- First-year Adrian Pena opened his collegiate indoor career in the 200m dash (24.03) and the 400-m dash (55.04).
- In the shot put, freshman Ariel Arcena opened his collegiate career with a throw of 11.98m.
- First-year Micah Groff made his collegiate debut in the 3000m, finishing in 9:28.81.
Women's Highlights
- Aryianna Garceau continued her standout season with a sweep of the 60m hurdles and 200m dash. She won the 60m hurdles in 8.58 seconds, ranking first in the LEC and NCAA Division III. Garceau also dominated the 200m dash with a time of 24.86 seconds, ranking eighth nationally.
- Three Beacons made their collegiate debuts in the 60m dash, including Nimatu Johnson (8.69), Kiyani Liriano (9.25), and Mariah Romaine (8.59), who also made her collegiate debut in the long jump.
- Freshman Amelia Caruso clocked a personal-best time of 27.56 seconds in the 200m dash.
- Shea Roche shaved 23 seconds off her 3000m time, finishing in 10:28.51. Sophomore Abigail Churchill also posted a career-best performance in the 3000m with a time of 13:12.11.
- In the weight throw, junior Agnessa Lysenko recorded a personal-best mark of 12.98m, while junior Katie Touhy posted a career-best throw of 12.65m.
