PROVIDENCE, R.I. (September 8, 2025) – UMass Boston women's soccer was well-represented in this week's Little East Conference honors, with sophomore forward Sofia Schallmo (Norwood, Mass.) named Offensive Player of the Week for the fifth time in her career and first-year goalkeeper Janiya Matier (North Easton, Mass.) collecting her first career weekly award.
Schallmo secured Offensive Player of the Week recognition after powering the Beacons' attack in a pair of standout performances against the United States Coast Guard Academy and Russell Sage College. She netted her third career hat trick in just 49 minutes of play during UMass Boston's 4-1 victory over Coast Guard, before assisting on the Beacons' lone goal in a 1-0 win over Russell Sage.
Matier earned Goalie of the Week honors after back-to-back strong outings in net. She posted four saves against Coast Guard and followed it up with a six-save shutout against Russell Sage, giving her two clean sheets to start her collegiate career.
Through three games in 2025, Matier leads all LEC goalkeepers in shutouts per game (.667), goals against average (.333), and save percentage (.933), marking an outstanding debut season between the posts.
Schallmo, Matier, and the Beacons return to James Cotter Field on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. to host Wellesley College.
