Garceau broke another personal record with her performance on Friday, dropping the UMass Boston school record from 8.55s to 8.49s, good for seventh in NCAA DIII all-time. Her new PR set a facility record at the Golisano Center, surpassing the previously set record of 8.56s set by Natalie Sawyer of Buffalo Sate in 2024. With another school record, and a new facility record, Garceau has shattered a total of seven records this season, including the Little East Conference (LEC) Indoor Championship record, and five total school records.
Garceau leads the seven other final qualifiers with her 8.49s preliminary run, with the competition ranging from 8.50s to 8.71s. Junior Allyson Hammond of Pacific (Ore.) is Garceau's closest competition, as she needed a 0.23s personal record to come within 0.01s of Garceau heading into finals (8.50s).
With Garceau ranked first out of the eight final qualifiers, she is primed for a historic performance on Saturday, as she seeks the program's 21
st National Championship, the first since former Olympian Wadeline Jonathas represented UMass Boston in 2018. Garceau sought out the NCAA DIII Indoor Championship Record to begin the season, and with her 8.49s finish in preliminaries, she is now within 0.1s of fulfilling her goal (8.39s).
Garceau will line up in the blocks in lane four at 3:10 p.m. tomorrow (Mar. 15). To witness the conclusion of Garceau's historic season, tune in to live results at the link (
