BOSTON, MA (February 7, 2025): On Friday, UMass Boston track and field sent six select individuals to two separate invitationals, the Showdown at the Heights Invitational hosted by Boston College and the Crimson Elite Invitational hosted by Harvard.
From the Track at New Balance, four Beacons contributed memorable performances to add depth heading into the latter stages of the season.
Derrick Touba (Yonker, N.Y.) and
Jhenelle Evans (Milton, Mass.) represented the Beacons in the 60m dash, with Touba finishing in 7.25s, and Evans finishing in 8.15s.
Junior
Melvin Wiltshire (Boston, Mass.) and sophomore
Justin Riley (Weymouth, Mass.) each set new personal bests in the 200m dash. Riley set a new time to beat the Beacons, coming in hot with a 23.02s finish for a new season-high for the Beacons and a career-best for the sophomore. Wiltshire finished just behind him with a new personal best of 23.17s.
At the Crimson Elite from Harvard in Cambridge, MA, junior hurdler
Aryianna Garceau (Dalton, Mass.) Â represented UMass Boston in high regard. She continued to respond under pressure when faced with the nation's elite hurdlers.
In the first round of the women's 60m hurdles, Garceau was one-hundredth of a second off from tying her own school record and qualified to move onto the final round with a scorching 8.57s finish, clearing out six other hurdlers, including three NCAA DI competitors (University of Connecticut, Brown, UMass Lowell.).
Following a two-hour break, Garceau took to the finals heat and finished sixth out of seven with an 8.58s mark. Two hundredths of a second off her school record put her above two competing DI athletes, as Garceau continues to leave her footprint on the 2024-25 indoor season.
The Beacons will travel as a team to Kingston, R.I., tomorrow, Saturday, February 8, for the University of Rhode Island Coaches Invitational.
