BOSTON, MA (February 15, 2025) – The Beacons' track and field team was split between the Boston University Valentine Inivtational, and the Plymouth State Alumni Invite on Saturday, highlighted by multiple top season and collegiate marks, as the Beacons made a final push ahead of the Little East Conference Championships next week (Feb. 22) in Providence, R.I.
BU Valentine Invite:
Junior hurdler
Aryianna Garceau (Dalton, Mass.), junior
Jacqueline Earner (Abington, Mass.) and senior
Dorinda Okorji (Maynard, Mass.) represented the Beacons on Saturday at the BU Valentine Invitational. Garceau performed in the 60m hurdles and the women's 200m dash, Earner took to the 800m dash, and Okorji took to the long jump runway.
Okorji lept for a 5.18m (17 ft.) best from the BU runway, taking 11
th overall in the event.
Earner finished the 800m in 2:22.87 among talent across all the NCAA division levels.
Garceau had herself another national caliber performance, finishing second in the preliminaries in 8.82s, followed by a second-place overall finish in the 60m hurdles in 8.69s. In the 200m dash, Garceau ran a new personal best in 24.75s on the BU bank, which converts to 25.14, setting her at 14
th in NCAA DIII. Garceau now holds top 16 marks in both the 60m hurdles and the 200m dash in two events on the national stage.
Plymouth State Alumni Invite:
Sophomore
Justin Riley (Weymouth, Mass.) took third place in two events. In the 200m dash, he finished in 23.55s and set a new personal record in the 60m hurdles in 9.09s. Junior
Melvin Wiltshire (Boston, Mass.) followed Riley in the 200m dash with a 23.82s finish.
First-year
Kylee Browning (Attleboro, Mass.) set a new personal record in the 800m dash in 2:40.36s, taking fourth overall in the event.
Senior
Elizabeth Roy (Abington, Mass.) set a new personal record in the 60m dash, with a second overall 8.25s finish, which currently has her at 13 in the Little East Conference, making the successful jump into the top-16 qualifiers for next week's championships. Roy also ran the women's 200m dash in 28.67s for a fifth-place overall finish.
From the thrower's circle, the Beacons sent five throwers, two women and three men to Plymouth for a final push.
On the men's side, senior
Olutemi Alofe and
Neville Richards (Wellington, Fla.) took first and second in the men's shotput, respectively. Alofe finished first with a 12.20m mark, followed by Richards with a new personal-best 12.17m (39 ft., 11.25 in.).
Arthur Grant (Sam) (Walpole, Mass.) followed Alofe and Richards with a 10.17m mark in the men's shotput. For the men's weight throw, Richards took third overall with a 13.07m (42 ft., 10.75 in.) best.
On the women's side,
Katie Tuohy (Groton, Conn.) led the field, finishing third with a new personal-best 10.33m (33 ft., 10.75 in.) in the women's shotput. Tuohy's new PR sets her at 13
th in the conference and qualifies her to compete at next week's championships.
Isadora Teodoro Marques (Billerica, Mass.) followed Tuohy with an 8.59m (28 ft., 2.25 in.) mark in the women's shotput, and a 9.63m (31 ft., 7.25 in.) mark in the women's weight throw.
The qualifying Beacons will continue their season for the final time in the regular indoor season next Saturday, Feb. 22, at the LEC Championships at Rhode Island College in Providence, R.I. Full meet information and details will follow. For non-qualifying Beacons, their season will continue outdoors.
