Boston MA- University of Massachusetts Boston Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Jacqui Schuman has announced that Matt Hyde has been elevated from the role of Head Strength and Condition Coach & Director of Sport Performance to Associate Athletic Director for Sport Performance and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
"We are thrilled to be able to able to elevate Matt to the role of Associate Athletic Director for Sport Performance and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach," said Schuman. "Matt has a clear vision for the performance program model we are building, and his strong leadership will be instrumental as we develop a holistic approach to student-athlete wellness."
In his new role Hyde will oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive program aimed at enhancing both individual student-athlete and team performance through a collaborative approach. This program will integrate various elements, including sports medicine, athletic training, strength and conditioning, sports science, sports dietetics, and mental health/well-being. Additionally, Hyde will continue to serve as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the university and oversee all areas of the Dan Rea '70 Boston State College Varsity Training Room.

The student-athletes always come first, and this holistic approach will provide our student-athletes with the tools and opportunities to excel in their respective sport as well as in their years beyond UMass Boston."
Hyde has been with UMass Boston since the fall of 2021, when he was hired as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach & Director of Sport Performance. In this role, Hyde was responsible for designing training schedules and implementing strength and conditioning protocols for all 19 NCAA-sponsored sports on campus.

Before joining UMass Boston, Hyde served as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. At Trinity, he worked directly with nine of the university's 30 varsity programs, while also assisting with football and both men's and women's track and field.
Hyde's career includes experience at Rutgers University (NJ), Castleton State University (VT) the University at Buffalo (NY) and Colorado State University. At Rutgers, he worked with eight of the 24 Olympic Sports, including men's and women's basketball, track and field, softball, field hockey, baseball, and men's golf. At Castleton State, Hyde served as a Graduate Assistant, where he developed and implemented both in-season and off-season training protocols for men's and women's lacrosse, women's field hockey, men's wrestling, and assisted with football. At both the University at Buffalo and Colorado State, Hyde worked directly with both NCAA Division I football programs.
Hyde earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health with a focus on Health and Fitness Management from Iowa State University. He also holds a Master of Science in Athletic Leadership with an emphasis in Coaching from Castleton State University.
He will begin his new role immediately.
