Advancing the Legacy of Excellence; Schuman announces UMass Boston Athletics and Recreation Strategic Plan.

Boston, MA- University of Massachusetts Boston Vice Chancellor of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Jacqueline Schuman announced the completion and publication of "Advancing the Legacy of Excellence," a comprehensive five-year strategic plan for UMass Boston Athletics and Recreation.

"I am thrilled to announce the official public launch of the University of Massachusetts Boston Athletics and Recreation Strategic Plan- Advancing the Legacy of Excellence," said Schuman.

"The release of this plan concludes over a year of broad consultations across the university and thoughtful consideration of the critical role of sports at UMass Boston. Our new strategic plan honors our rich athletic history and charts a clear path forward."

In fall 2021, Dr. Schuman assembled a Mission, Vision, Values Committee (MVVC) comprised of senior campus administrators, alumni, coaches, faculty, former Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Recreation, students, and student-athletes to provide foundational components before developing a strategic plan that would help guide the process. The work of the MVVC resulted in the mission, vision, and values that would guide the priorities of the strategic plan.

Our Mission: Engage our students and community in a transformative experience, developing individuals of character prepared to champion change in the world.

Our Vision: Be home to the top NCAA Division III public university athletic, recreation, and wellness program in the nation, with an unwavering commitment to becoming Beacons of excellence in the classroom, on campus, in the community, and in competition, and dedicated to being a leader in anti-racism, inclusion, and health promotion.

Our Values: Resilience, Transformation, Courage, Integrity, Excellence, and Equity.

With the Athletics and Recreation Department's mission, vision, and values aligned, working groups were created to develop an execution plan to create a clear road map for outcomes, metrics, and accountability to deliver on the five strategic priorities outlined in the strategic plan.

Strategic Priority 1- Wellness

Strategic Priority 2- Stakeholder Engagement

Strategic Priority 3- Gender Equity

Strategic Priority 4- Capital Investment

Strategic Priority 5- Advancement

"It is truly an exciting time to be a member of the UMass Boston Athletics and Recreation community," added Schuman. "With our strategic plan and priorities in place, the time is now to elevate everything that we do as our mission, vision, and values drive our daily work and impact our students for the better."
