UMass Boston Set to Host Little East Conference Baseball and Softball Postseason Tournaments

BOSTON, MA (May 7. 2024) -- Following the conclusion of the Beacons' softball and baseball regular seasons, both UMass Boston baseball and softball will play host to the Little East Conference for the 2024 LEC Softball and Baseball Postseason tournaments. Baseball finished their season as LEC Regular Season Champions with a 13-3 LEC record, with softball finishing as LEC Regular Season Champions with an 11-5 LEC record.

Both tournaments will take place on the campus of UMass Boston from Wednesday, May 8 until Saturday, May 11 with Sunday, May 12 as a potential rain date. 

For both baseball and softball, the top six teams in the LEC will play in a six-team double-elimination bracket. 

The final standings after each season is below:
LEC Baseball Standings:
  1. UMass Boston (13-3)
  2. Eastern Connecticut State University (13-3)
  3.  UMass Dartmouth (12-4)
  4. Southern Maine (9-7)
  5. Keene State (8-8)
  6. Rhode Island College (6-10)
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will follow three game formats with the first game starting at noon, then game two at 3:30 pm, and the final game beginning at 7:00 pm for the first three days. On the day of the final games (Saturday, or Sunday depending on the weather. Updates to come), game times will start at noon and 3:00 pm.

For the baseball side, the first round of matchups on Wednesday from Monan Park will feature UMass Boston against No. 6 Rhode Island College at noon, followed by No.2 Eastern Connecticut vs No. 5 Keene State at 3:30, then will conclude with No.3 UMass Dartmouth vs No. 4 Southern Maine at 7:00 pm.

  3. Eastern Connecticut State (10-6)
  4. Rhode Island College (10-6)
  5. Southern Maine (9-7)
  6. Vermont State University Castleton (7-9)
For softball, the top two seeded teams (UMass Boston, and UMass Dartmouth) will receive first-round byes. Wednesday through Friday three games will be played per day with game times locked in at 10:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 3:00 pm, with the championship game scheduled for Saturday with a potential Sunday rain date.

The first round of matchups on Wednesday for the softball tournament from the UMB Softball Field will feature  No.4 Rhode Island College vs No.5 Southern Maine at 10:00 am, followed by by No.3 ECSU vs No.6 VTSU Castleton at 12:00. Wednesday will conclude following game three at 3:00 pm which will feature the losers of game one, and game two, to determine who will play the loser of game five featuring the Beacons and the winner of game one (RIC vs. USM).
