BOSTON, Mass. - A weekend split with the Johnson & Wales Wildcats earned a pair of UMass Boston Men's Ice Hockey players a spot on the New England Hockey Conference's weekly honor roll. Rookie skater
Jack Mortson and goalie
Sam Best both earned a spot on the list.
Mortson had a quite night on Friday, but exploded onto the scene during the Beacons 5-0 victory over JWU on Saturday, scoring a pair of goals and assisting on two others to lead the offense. Mortson, who has been named the NEHC Rookie of the Week twice this season to go alongside his honor roll appointment, is tied with
Jude Kurtas with a team-best eight goals on the season and sits behind only Kurtas and
Conor Foley with 14 points on the year.
In his final home game as a Beacon, Best extended his own program record with his eighth career shutout. He faced down double-digit shots from the Wildcats in each period, saving a total of 34 shots in the senior night victory. Best has been recognized as the league's Goalie of the Week three times this season.
