BOSTON, Mass. - For the second week in a row Men's Soccer saw two players recognized with Little East Conference weekly honors, the conference announced on Monday. The team took home a pair of victories by a combined score of 9-1 with Offensive Player of the Week
Gabriel Meireles and Rookie of the Week
Rafael Gross leading the way on offense.
It was only a matter of time before Meireles took home an individual honor for his work on the offensive end. In his first year at UMass Boston, the midfielder has a team-high seven goals in as many games. He has yet to play in a game without recording a goal or assist.
The week of September 13 was particularly kind to Meireles, who got himself on a goal-per-game pace with a pair of scores against Worcester State before netting one of the Beacons' four goals in their LEC opener against Plymouth State.
The Beacons' class of newcomers is rounded out by Gross, who becomes the second UMass Boston player in as many weeks to be recognized as the LEC Rookie of the Week. The Brazilian forward made his presence felt in the victory over Plymouth State, putting his third goal of the season into the net. Gross' three scores match fellow freshman standout
John Arruda for third-most on the team.Â
The electrifying newcomers will look to keep their team hot in a pair of games this week.
