Men’s Soccer Weathers the Storm Against U.N.E.

Biddeford, ME. (September 16, 2025) – UMass Boston men's soccer (3-2-2) rolled to a 5-0 road victory over the University of New England Nor'Easters (0-4-1) on Tuesday afternoon, with four different Beacons finding the back of the net in a dominant non-conference performance.

Sophomore midfielder Felipe De Andrade (Westborough, Mass.) wasted no time, scoring just 90 seconds after kickoff with a long-range strike from the left wing. He later added a second tally in the 23rd minute off a double assist from Patrick Garcia (Brookline, Mass.) and Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Brazil), capping a first-half brace.

In between De Andrade's goals, the Beacons kept the pressure on. Junior forward John Arruda (Espirito Santo, Brazil) doubled the lead in the sixth minute, pouncing on a rebound for his third goal of the year. Less than five minutes later, junior forward Rafael Gross (Minas Gerais, Brazil) buried his second of the season after a flurry of shots in front of goal.

By halftime, UMass Boston led 4-0, holding an 11-7 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks. First-year goalkeeper Nolan McKenna (Norwell, Mass.) and UNE's Dylan Morris each made three saves to keep the scoreline steady entering the break.

The Beacons continued to control the second half, outshooting UNE 8-1. Junior defender Ryan Doherty (Quincy, Mass.) sealed the win in the 74th minute with his first goal as a Beacon, rounding out the 5-0 win for McKenna's first career shutout.

UMass Boston men's soccer now turns its attention to Little East Conference play, opening league action this Saturday (Sept. 20) at 12:00 p.m. against Rhode Island College at the BC High JV Field.
