Men's Hockey ties Skidmore 2-2

The Beacons will be the three seed and host Skidmore next Saturday at 7pm in the NEHC Quarters

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Skidmore College scored with one second left in regulation, to earn a 2-2 tie on Saturday in the two team's regular-season finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Skidmore's Mike Gelatt scored an extra-attackeer goal with under a second to play, to force the game into overtime. The Beacons would outshoot the hosts 3-1 in the extra session but couldn't find a game-winning tally. 
 
Nolan Barrett (Wayne, N.J.) and Jeffrey Skinner (Katy, Texas) each scored for the Beacons who finished the regular-season with back-to-back ties. 
 
Sam Best (Woburn, Mass.) made 36 saves on 38 shots, including 28 saves on 29 shots in the final two periods. 
 
Gelatt and Callahan Johnson each scored for Skidmore, who closed out the regular-season with a four-point weekend. 
 
Skidmore's Tate Brandon made 28 saves on 30 shots on Senior Day for the Thoroughbreds. 
 
Callahan Johnson opened the scoring for the hosts at 4:50. 
 
Skinner tied the game at 19:17 of the first, off passes from Chris Peters (Fairport, N.Y.) and Evan Heldt (Sylvania, Ohio). 
 
The Beacons took the lead at 5:33 of the third period when Barrett scored off feeds from Peters and Alex Duncan (Andover, Mass.). 
 
Skidmore pulled the goalie with 2:28 to play and finally broke through at 19:59. Gelatt scored off passes from Devon Mussio and Mason Beecher. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Skidmore outshot the Beacons 38-30, while the Beacons led 31-30 in face-offs. 
  • Peters picked up two assists in the tie. He finishes the regular-season leading the conference in 35 points and tied for the league-lead with 27 points in conference play. 
  • UMass Boston went 0-1 on the power-play and held Skidmore to an 0-5 showing. 
  • With the tie, UMass Boston finishes third in the New England Hockey conference standings and will be the third seed in next week's NEHC Tournament. 
  • The Beacons extended their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) against Skidmore College. UMass Boston is now 19-15-5 all-time against Skidmore College. 
  • UMass Boston goes into the postseason on a six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2).
