The Beacons opened the scoring just 6:36 into the contest and dominated from start to finish in the exhibition matchup. Since the University of Rhode Island is a club team, the game counted as an exhibition and none of the stats will count towards the Beacons season statistics.Â

With the win, UMass Boston advances to Thursday's Championship Game. The Beacons are scheduled to take on Post University at 1 p.m., after Post's first-round opponent Franklin Pierce University was forced to withdraw from the tournament on Wednesday.Â

Freshmen
Ty Matthews (Auburn, Mass.) and
Nolan Barrett (Wayne, N.J.) and sophomore
Patrick McCoy (Niantic, Conn.) each scored a goal and added an assist in their first career Codfish Bowl game.Â

Jeffrey Skinner (Katy, Texas) and
Gino Carabelli (Shelby Township, Mich.) tacked on a goal apiece in the victory.Â

Chris Peters (Fairport, N.Y.) led all UMass Boston players with two assists.
Devin Moran (Leominster, Mass.),
Ethan Nitkin (Miami Beach, Fla.),
Kolye Bankauskas (Coventry, R.I.) and
Evan Heldt (Sylvania, Ohio) all picked up one assist.Â

In net, junior
Sam Best (Woburn, Mass.) stopped all 11 shots he faced in the shutout victory.Â

Rhode Island's Curtis Briggs finished the contest with 60 saves on 65 shots. Briggs stopped at least 19 shots in all three periods, including 21 of 22 in the third period.Â

BY THE NUMBERS
- UMass Boston outshot the Rams 65-11 and held a 41-27 edge in face-offs.Â
- The Beacons finished 1-3 on the power-play and held URI to an 0-2 showing with no shots against.Â
