McGettrick Lifts Women's Soccer To Fourth Straight Win

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore forward Grace McGettrick (Marshfield, Mass.) scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 76th minute pushed women's soccer to their fourth-straight win as they defeated Regis College by the final of 2-1 Wednesday evening at James Cotter Field.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 2, Regis College 1

UMass Boston (7-2-0)
Regis College (4-4-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

McGettrick's game winning score was also one of the best individual plays of the sophomore's young career.  After receiving a pass from Kelly McNeil (Marshfield, Mass.), McGettrick dribbled the ball through three different Regis players to find herself facing just Ori Attridge.

Showing complete composure, McGettrick placed the ball to the low far post to cap-off what was one of her best games of the season so far.

McGettrick also had a hand in the Beacons than tying goal, as she connected with McNeil on a perfect struck half volley in the 62nd minute. McNeil would receive a bouncing pass from McGettrick at the top of the 18-yard box.  Completely unmarked, the freshman back picked her spot and drove it past Attridge.  That goal changed the momentum of the contest in favor of the Beacons, after a sluggish start to the second half.

The lone goal from Regis came on a long free kick from 40-yards out.  Emily Lange drove the ball high in the air and it dropped in perfectly over first half goalkeeper Miranda Smith (Runnemede, N.J.).

The Beacons offense dominated the night from start to finish, despite scoring just the two goals.

UMB used a variety of different players in new positions, but it was really the defense that stood out the most.  Senior Taylor Bilyak (Willington, Conn.) had her best game as she returned to the starting line-up for the Beacons, while sophomore transfer Dani Anderson (St. Augustine, Fla.) continues to help quarterback UMB's defensive third.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Wednesday's contest marked the first between the Beacons and Regis since 2007
  • The Beacons are now 3-0-2 in the last five meetings with the Pride, and are 5-6-2 all-time
  • The Beacons held a 22-8 advantage in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks
  • Abby McCulloch (Weymouth, Mass.) picked her first win of the season after closing out the first half with just one save

WHO'S NEXT

The Beacons will travel to Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday for a 3 p.m. Little East Conference game.  The game was originally scheduled to start at 4 p.m., but was moved to 3 p.m. earlier today.
