HOW IT HAPPENED
Looking to head into break with some momentum in their favor, the Beacons had to overcome a slow offensive start through the first two periods. Cusin would record the only goal of the first 40 minutes to give the Beacons the 1-0 lead heading into the third period.
The Beacons did get a pair of goal through the first six minutes of third to gain a comfortable lead (3-0). The Leopards then got on the board in with just over five minutes left in the contest. However, the late goal by Wentworth was too little too late, as the Beacons secured the win in the final 45 seconds with an empty-netter.
Cusin's first goal of the night came on the power-play at the 8:54 mark of the first period. Through the first 20 minutes the two teams were evenly matched offensively, with each squad posting nine shots.
In the second frame, the Beacons head a 15-4 advantage in shots, but had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard. Wentworth's Kenny Graham kept the Beacons in check as both teams headed to the third with the one goal between them.
Less than four minutes into the third, Colin Larkin (Waterford, Mich.) made it a two-goal game as he recorded his 11th marker of the season off of a Dominic Blad (Springfield, Mass.) assist. Just over two minutes later, it was Cusin again as he recorded an even strength goal to make it a three score affair.
Wentworth's only goal of the contest came from Sam Levin, but was quickly countered by the empty-netter by Albee Daley (Averill Park, N.Y.).
Jordan Bustard (Flanders, N.J.) secured his sixth win of the season after making 27 saves in the non-conference decision.
