BOSTON, Mass.—Eight different Beacons scored to lead #12/12 UMass Boston men's hockey past Connecticut College in the opening game of the 52nd Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons scored three goals in the first period, two more in the second and four in the final stanza, to avenge their 2015 Codfish Bowl loss against the Camels.
With the win, UMass Boston advances to Friday's championship game at 4 p.m. against the winner of Salve Regina University and Franklin Pierce University. Connecticut College will take on the loser of Thursday's second game at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Ryan Cusin (Detroit, Mich.) led four Beacons who had three-point days, as the freshman first-line forward netted a pair of goals and tacked on an assist. Sophomore Gabe Chuckran (Media, Pa.) and freshman Nolan Redler (Winchester, Mass.) each had a goal and two assists, while senior Brett Mason (Rowley, Mass.) tacked on three assists.
Seniors Tyler Bishop (Ramsey, N.J.), Albee Daley (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Zach Lindsay (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) all scored in the win. Sophomore David MacGregor (Azusa, Calif.) and Cody Wickline (Flower Mound, Texas) were the other two Beacons to score.
In total, 14 of the 18 Beacons skaters picked up at least one point, with eight players registering multiple points.
Freshman goalie Jordan Bustard (Flanders, N.J.) stopped 25 of 26 shots over the opening 56 minutes. Sophomore Jake Kahler (Rome, N.Y.) came on to make three saves in the final 4:01.
Jake Farabee scored the lone goal for the Camels, who won the 2015 Codfish Bowl Tournament in their second overall appearance. Ryan Petti and Jacob Moreau were credited with assists on the Farabee goal.
Junior Tim Cooney was the first of three Camels in net for head coach Jim Ward. Cooney made five saves on eight shots, before being pulled after the first period. Avery Gobbo and Austin Essery came on in relief, with both netminders giving up three goals.
Despite being outshot in the first period, UMass Boston headed into the break with a 3-0 advantage. Cusin and MacGregor scored 1:15 apart early on the period, while Chuckran snuck a puck in just over Cooney's glove at 17:03.
The Beacons picked up their play in the second period and stretched the lead out to 5-1. Redler scored a power-play tally at 5:41, only to have Farabee answer back at 6:03. Cusin gave the Beacons a four-goal cushion with a final tally with just seven seconds left in the period.
UMass Boston totally controlled the third stanza, as they scored four goals in nine minutes to finish off the Camels. Bishop scored a four-on-four tally at 8:02 and Daley pushed the lead to 7-1 with a power-play goal just over a minute later. The Beacons capped off the scoring with a Lindsay power-play tally at 11:53 and an even-strength marker from Wickline at 15:59.
BY THE NUMBERS
- UMass Boston outshot the Camels 38-29 and held a 35-30 edge in face-offs.
- Special teams played a huge part in the win. The Beacons' power-play, which came into the game number one in the nation, went 3-for-3. On the other side, Connecticut College was held to an 0-for-3 showing.
- With the win, UMass Boston reached the Codfish Bowl Title Game for the eight time in eleven years.
- Bishop finished a team-best +4 on the day and scored the first goal of his senior season. The Second Team All-American stretched his point streak to 14-straight and he now stands just four points shy of Bill Innocent ('92) for the program record for defenseman career points (81).
- UMass Boston improved to 6-14-2 all-time against Connecticut College.
