HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons scored two goals in each period and racked up 74 total shots, to bounce back from their first loss of the season.
Junior forward Colin Larkin (Waterford, Mich.) scored twice on the power play to bring his team-leading goal total to seven. Seniors Albee Daley (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Brett Mason (Rowley, Mass.) also found the back of the net, while freshmen Ryan Cusin (Detroit, Mich.) and Daniel Nachbaur (Richland, Wash.) both scored the first goals of their collegiate careers.
Freshman goalie Jordan Bustard (Flanders, N.J.) made 11 saves to improve to 4-1 on the season.
The big story of the game was Daniel Webster junior goalie Morgan Hudson. Hudson stopped at least 21 shots in all three periods, en route to 68 saves on 74 shots.
Sophomore Tanner Todd notched the Eagles lone marker of the game, with Brandon Beard picking up an assist on the play.
UMass Boston opened the scoring less than five minutes into the game and less than 30 seconds into their initial power play of the night. Senior Tyler Bishop (Ramsey, N.J.) fed Cusin in the far circle and Cusin's soft shot was redirected home by Daley for a 1-0 lead just 4:15 into the contest.
Larkin doubled the Beacons lead just over 10 minutes into the period. The junior rifled a shot through traffic for a 2-0 advantage at 10:02, with his linemates Daley and Cusin being credited with the assists.
The Beacons fourth-line opened the scoring in period number two. Cody Wickline (Flower Mound, Texas) sent Nachbaur a centering feed from below the goal line, and the freshman beat Hudson glove-side for a 3-0 lead.
Daniel Webster cut the deficit in half just past the midway point of the period, as Todd sniped a shot just inside the far post on a two-on-one rush at 10:18.
UMass Boston wrestled the momentum back at 15:25 of the period with their third power-play marker. Cusin rifled a shot off the top of Hudson's glove and into the upper netting for a 4-1 lead. Daley and junior Josh Haverstrom (Tampa, Fla.) earned assists on the play.
The Beacons put the game out of reach with their fourth and final special-teams goal. Cusin sent a cross ice pass to a wide-open Larkin on the near side and Larkin's one-timer easily beat Hudson who was still working to slide back into position.
Mason tacked on the Beacons sixth and final tally at 16:27, when the senior defenseman floated one past Hudson from the blue line. Zach Lindsay (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and Tyler Sifferlen (North Andover, Mass.) each registered assists on the play.
