Men's Soccer Routs Southern Maine To Improve to 8-0

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – In one of the most dominant performances in program history, regionally-ranked men's soccer crushed the University of Southern Maine behind a four-goal showing from senior Pedro Dasilva (Fogo, Cape Verde) on their way to a 9-0 Little East Conference win Saturday afternoon at Boston College High School.

HOW IT HAPPENED

For the second time in two seasons, Dasilva unloaded four goals to carry UMass Boston to a huge victory.  Last season, the Cape Verde native scored all four goals for UMB in the 4-2 win over Wentworth Institute.  In Saturday's victory, the All-Region selection found the back of the net two times in each half, to fuel the most one-sided conference victory in program history.

In doing so the Beacons remain one of just a handful of teams with a perfect record heading into the month of October.  The eight consecutive victories represents the longest win-streak in program history, as well as the best start by far since the program's founding back in 1981.

Also getting in on the scoring in Saturday's victory was Edmilson Barros (Praia, Cape Verde), Mohamed Kenawy (Revere, Mass.), Pedro De Carvalho (Praia, Cape Verde), and Guilherme Barbosa (Saugus, Mass.).  Between the pipes, Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) picked-up his fourth win of the year.  The Revere native now sits with 25 career victories, which puts him just one win away from tying the program record set by Paul Maniscalco.

Barros was the one who initially broke the scoreless draw in the 5th minute of the match as he headed home a perfectly placed corner kick by Calvin Smick (Wilmington, Del.).   From their Dasilva would register back-to-back goals in a 10 minute span to make it a 3-0 affair.

After the intermission, the Beacons offense kicked into high gear, with Kenawy tacking on the Beacons fourth goal less than four minutes into the new half.  One minute and nine seconds later, De Carvalho unleashed a blast from about 30 yards out to make it a five goal game.  The goal marked the first of the year for the Beacons big back.

From there Barbosa, and Dasilva put the game away with their fifth and sixth goals respectively.  The final goal of the night was ruled an own goal, after the ball deflected off the foot of a Huskies' defender.

On the night Rosales was forced to come up with one stop, before trading places with sophomore Adonis Mutambu (Democratic Republic of Congo), who made his collegiate debut in the victory.

The Beacons outshot the Huskies 35-5 and held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
