Jake Beverlin Becomes UMass Boston Men’s Soccer All-Time Winningest Head Coach

BOSTON, MA (October 19, 2025) – UMass Boston head coach Jake Beverlin has officially become the winningest coach in the history of the Beacons' men's soccer program, earning his 143rd career victory on Saturday (Oct. 18) against the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors to surpass the late Noel Cotterell.

Cotterell, who guided the Beacons from 1986 to 2002, left a lasting legacy with the program before his passing in 2025. Over 16 seasons, he amassed a career record of 142-161-25, finishing with a .471 winning percentage.

Beverlin arrived at UMass Boston in 2013 and made an immediate impact, going 11-7-1 (3-3-1 Little East Conference) in his debut season. In just his second year, he led the Beacons to unprecedented success, capturing the program's first-ever LEC regular-season championship, LEC tournament title, and NCAA Tournament appearance with a then-program-high 14 wins.

The success continued as Beverlin guided the Beacons to three straight LEC tournament championships from 2014 to 2016, setting new single-season win records along the way: 16 in 2015 and 18 in 2016, a season capped by a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Thirteen seasons and more than 200 games later, following the 3-0 win against Eastern Connecticut, Beverlin now stands alone atop the program's record books with 143 career victories.

"We probably should have won that many games a lot sooner," joked Beverlin in reaction to his career milestone as the winningest coach in UMass Boston men's soccer history. "I really appreciate Marcelo [Cunha] and Steve [Estive Sosa] for their assistance along the way. They've played such a big role in shaping the culture of our team and supporting our student-athletes every day. Success like this doesn't happen without a strong staff, and I'm lucky to have them beside me."

Junior captain Ian Visnick (Beverly, Mass.) expressed his and the team's appreciation for Beverlin and the coaching staff following Saturday's momentous win, saying, "Our coaches are incredibly organized and exceptional at what they do. I'm more thankful for them than most coaches I see around the game. The way we buy in and show up to work every day on the details that end up helping us — it all translates directly to how we play. I'm only as good as I can be because they put me in a position to succeed, honestly."

UMass Boston men's soccer will return to action Wednesday, October 22 on the road, as they head north to Gorham, Maine for a road trip against the University of Southern Maine Huskies.
