HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass Boston outshot the Purple Knights 60-21 and had three different players score in front of a big crowd on Alumni Day.
Andrews backstopped the Beacons' to their first clean sheet of the season, by stopping at least six shots in all three periods. With his third collegiate shutout, Andrews tied Beacons greats Frank Soltesz ('99), Ryan Donovan ('10) and Kevin Bendel ('12) for the program-record for shutouts.
Seniors Connor McStravick (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Frankie DeAugustine (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each scored, while freshman Garrison Sanipass (Northbrook, Ill.) added his second goal of the weekend.
Saint Michael's freshman Chris Johnson was the tough-luck loser, as the freshman stopped 57 shots in 60 minutes of action. He stopped 23 of 24 shots in the first, 16 of 18 in the second and all 16 shots he faced in a scoreless third period.
UMass Boston dominated the first period of play, but couldn't find the back of the net until the 15:51 mark.
Junior Zach Lindsay (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) started the play with a hard shot that caromed off Johnson's pads and behind the net to Bryan Carter (Hudson, Mass.). Carter immediately picked up the puck and fed it out in front to McStravick, who slipped home his shot, for his first goal of the season.
The Beacons doubled their lead at 5:12 of the second period. Junior defenseman Tyler Bishop (Ramsey, N.J.) purposefully sent a hard shot just wide of the net and the carom bounced back to Sanipass, who slipped a shot home from the far side.
UMass Boston's third goal was their most impressive, as the first line combined for a nifty goal on the power-play. Colin Larkin (Waterford, Mich.) brought the puck across mid-ice and sent it forward for Matt Lemire (Townsend, Mass.). Lemire immediately chipped a back-hand pass ahead to DeAugustine, who one-timed a shot home for his fourth tally of the year.
