HOW IT HAPPENED
Verrier stopped his 31st shot of the game with 2 seconds remaining in the extra session, after UMass Boston thought they had the game-winner just seconds before.
With the clock winding under 10 seconds to go, senior forward Derek Colucci (North Scituate, R.I.) took the puck out of his own zone and raced ahead of the pack, only to draw contact from behind to alter his shot. With the clock ticking down, another Beacons tried to sneak the puck from behind the net and in, but Colby' Michael Decker dove on top of the puck to deny the Beacons a goal.
Colucci was awarded a penalty shot, but the senior's effort was stonewalled by Verrier's right leg. On the ensuing face-off, Colin Larkin's (Waterford, Mass.) shot was blocked to snap UMass Boston's 14-game winning streak in November. The Beacons are unbeaten in their last 18 games in the month of November (15-0-3) dating back to 2013.
Freshman Garrison Sanipass (Northbrook, Ill.) scored the Beacons' lone goal of the game.
In net, Billy Faust (Alta Loma, Calif.) made 27 saves on 28 shots to move to 5-0-1 on the year. Faust was especially good in the second period, stopping 10 of the 11 shots he faced.
On the other side, Griffin Fadden recorded his first collegiate goal and Verrier stopped 31 of 32 Beacons' shot.
Both sides finished 0-for-4 on the power-play, with the two teams combining for 20 total penalty minutes.
After a scoreless first period, the two teams combined to score two goals in a 4:53 span.
Fadden opened the scoring at 2:37, with Jonathan Sdao and Geoff Sullivan picking up the assists.
Just under five minutes later, Sanipass recorded the fourth goal of his freshman campaign, off a pass from Colucci.
