Box Score BOSTON, Mass.—Seven different skaters recorded goals to help #11/12 UMass Boston men's hockey (12-2-1) blow past Wentworth Institute of Technology (6-7-2) 7-3 Wednesday evening at Walter Brown Arena.
After the two teams entered the locker room tied 2-2 after 20 minutes, UMass Boston outscored Wentworth 3-1 in the second period and 2-0 in the final stanza to earn their fourth-straight win over the Leopards.
Juniors Connor McStravick (Philadelphia, Pa.), Matt Lemire (Townsend, Mass.) and Peter MacIntyre (Norfolk, Mass.) and senior Stephen Buco (North Providence, R.I.) all finished with a goal and an assist, to help the Beacons improve to 7-1 on the road.
Kit Sitterley (Mooresville, N.C.), Albee Daley (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Colin Larkin (Waterford, Mich.) also scored in the midweek non-conference contest.
In net, Zach Andrews (Coral Springs, Fla.) overcame a rough first period, to make 14 stops on 17 shots.
Chris Sattler netted two of the Leopards three goals on the evening, as Wentworth saw their winless streak stretch to three. Freshman forward Erik Andersson recorded his third collegiate marker in the loss.
Alex Peck and Joel Miller combined for 38 saves on 44 shots, with Peck taking the loss, after making 22 saves on 27 shots through the first 32:20.
The Beacons earned a 45-17 advantage in shots on goal, with UMass Boston amassing at least 12 shots on goal in each period. UMass Boston and Wentworth each finished 1-for-2 on the power-play.
UMass Boston dominated the Leopards on the stat sheet throughout the contest, but struggled to take control of the game on the scoreboard until the midway point of the second period.
McStravick gave the Beacons a 1-0 edge just 2:11 into the contest, when the junior recorded an unassisted tally.
Andersson netted the equalizer for Wentworth at 9:16 of the period, when he received a pass from Mike Cox and beat Andrews to make it 1-1.
Wentworth took their first and only lead of the game less than two minutes later, when Sattler scored the first of his two goals at 10:51. Ryan Sullivan and Mike Domsodi were credited with assists on the play.
The Beacons tied the game before the break with a power-play goal of their own, as Sitterley recorded a 5-on-3 tally to tie the game 2-2 at 13:13.
UMass Boston took advantage of the game for good in the second period, thanks to three goals over a three-minute and 14-second span.
Daley opened the scoring flurry at 9:06 of the second stanza, when the sophomore buried a shot to make it 3-2 in favor of the visitors.
Buco followed with the game-winning tally 26 seconds later, as he sent a slapshot past Peck to give the Beacons a 4-2 lead. MacIntyre and Lemire each picked up assists on the play.
UMass Boston ended Peck's night two-minutes and 48 seconds later, when Lemire scored his second goal in as many games, to give the Beacons a 5-3 advantage at 12:20 of the period. Senior Dan Cornell (Abington, Mass.) earned the lone assist on the play.
Sattler cut the Beacons momentum momentarily at 13:14 of the period, when he scored to cut the deficit to 5-3.
The Beacons made it a three-goal game once again at 3:57 of the third, when he took a pass from Tyler Bishop (Ramsey, N.J.) and beat Miller to make it 6-3.
Larkin capped off the scoring with 1:19 to play, when the freshman wristed home an empty-net goal to make it 7-3. Senior captain Mike Kuhn (Holbrook, Mass.) recorded his 13th assist of the year on the play.
UMass Boston will have a quick turnaround, as the Beacons will host St. Anselm College Friday night at 7 p.m. in an ECAC East Conference match-up.
