PROVIDENCE, RI (Sept. 28, 2026) -- UMass Boston women's tennis landed both weekly awards from the Little East Conference (LEC).
Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, India) was selected Player of the Week and
Delilah Castro (Horizon City, Tex.) was chosen Rookie of the Week, following the Beacons' 7-0 shutout of Salem State University.
Player of the Week – Zainab Patel, UMass Boston
Patel did not lose a match in either singles or doubles as the Beacons blanked the Vikings. The senior dominated at No. 1 singles, taking both sets 6-0 without dropping a game. She then paired with Tatiana Malone (South Dennis, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles, where the two rolled to a 6-1 win to cap Patel's perfect day.
Rookie of the Week – Delilah Castro, UMass Boston
Castro was also perfect against Salem State, winning at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles. The first-year took her singles match 6-1, 6-0, then teamed with Karina Khalsa (South Yarmouth, Mass.) to win 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. The victory moves Castro to 6-0 in singles this season and helped the Beacons finish off the 7-0 sweep.
Castro, Patel and the Beacons' women's tennis team retakes the court on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Milton, Mass., against the Bridgewater State Bears in LEC action. First serve scheduled for 3:30 PM at the Milton Academy.
