SALEM, Mass. (Sept. 22, 2026) – The UMass Boston Beacons women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 sweep of the Salem State Vikings in Little East Conference (LEC) action on Tuesday in Salem.
UMass Boston is now 5-1 (3-0 LEC) on the season, while Salem State drops to 0-3 (0-2 LEC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Beacons registered 6-1 victories in all three doubles matches to secure the early point.
Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, India) and
Tatiana Malone (South Dennis, Mass.) notched the win in No. 1 doubles, the duo of
Karina Khalsa (South Yarmouth, Mass.)/
Delilah Castro (Horizon City, Texas) recorded the win in No. 2 doubles and
Madi Mahfouz (Harwich, Mass.)/
Kaya-Lilliana Rutkowski (Berlin, Conn.) posted the victory at No. 3.
Patel rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of the Vikings' Ryann Tripp in first singles, while Malone followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of her own at second singles.
Khalsa defeated Grace Baldassi by a score of 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Castro notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.
Elsewhere for the Beacons,
Aleyna Yilidirim (New York, N.Y.) and Rutkowski each recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins of their own in fifth and six singles action.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
The trio of Castro (6-0), Patel (5-0) and Yilidirim (5-0) are all unbeaten in singles play thus far for head coach
Malcolm Neville's team.
In their first three LEC matches, UMass Boston has recorded victories of 7-0 (Salem State, WestConn) and 6-1 (Plymouth State).
