BOSTON, Mass. (April 9, 2026) – UMass Boston Baseball (13-11, 3-2 Little East Conference) put together an explosive offensive performance at Monan Park, tallying 15 runs and 14 hits in a high-scoring non-conference contest against Suffolk — ultimately falling 17-15 in a back-and-forth thriller. The Beacons built an 11-2 advantage through five innings and showed their capacity to generate runs in bunches, setting up an exciting stretch run ahead of a key conference doubleheader this weekend.
How it Happened:
UMass Boston struck first in the opening frame, plating three runs without a hit thanks to a trio of hit batters, two walks, and a Suffolk error. The Beacons added single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings before erupting for five in the fifth — capped by a two-RBI single from Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.)and an RBI single from Ben Sherry (Fall River, Mass.)— to push the lead to 11-2. Dylan Agvent (Orange, Conn.), Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.), and Sherry each finished with three hits to pace the offense.
Starter Ethan Nowak (Hampton Falls, N.H.) was sharp, limiting Suffolk to two earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts over five innings. Suffolk chipped away with six runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 11-8, then added five more in the eighth to pull within one. The Beacons responded with four runs of their own in the eighth to take a 15-13 lead, but Suffolk plated four in the ninth — capped by a leadoff home run from Jack Mihalchik and a two-run triple by Mike Mullaney — to claim a 17-15 final.
