2026-27 Women's Ice Hockey Season Preview

BOSTON (Oct. 28, 2026) -- UMass Boston enters the 2026-27 season coming off a 16-9-2 overall record and a second-place finish in the Little East Conference, with a deep returning core headlined by senior Maggie Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) and a revamped goaltending rotation that will define the Beacons' ceiling this winter.

Season Outlook:

UMass Boston returns the majority of its scoring from a squad that finished second in the LEC a season ago, led by Lynch, junior Cassidy Morrison (Fairbanks, Alaska) and junior Grace Lynch (West Roxbury, Mass.). The Beacons averaged 2.0 goals per game in 2025-26 and converted at a 13.6% clip on the power play, going 11-for-81.

With key departures to absorb up front and a new primary goaltender to establish, the 2026-27 season will test the depth head coach David Lun has built in his first two years at the helm.

In the 2026-27 LEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Beacons were selected to finish second in the conference standings once again, with 42 points and one first-place vote, seven points behind Norwich, who was selected first overall with 49 points and seven first-place votes. The Beacons stand ahead of the third-ranked Southern Maine by nine points. The full LEC Preseason Poll can be found HERE.

2025-26 in Review:

The Beacons finished 16-9-2 overall and 11-6-1 in LEC play, accumulating 30 conference points to claim second place in the standings. UMass Boston led the LEC with a 4-0 record in conference overtime games and recorded the league's only shootout victory. The postseason run began with a 2-1 win over Southern Maine on Feb. 28 before ending with a 3-1 loss to Norwich on Mar. 7. The Beacons averaged 2.0 goals per game and posted a 13.6% power-play percentage on the season.

The Returning Core:

Senior Maggie Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) returns as the team's leading scorer after posting seven goals, seven assists and 14 points in 2025-26. Junior Cassidy Morrison (Fairbanks, Alaska) adds three goals, nine assists and 12 points, while junior Grace Lynch (West Roxbury, Mass.) contributes five goals, six assists and 11 points. Also back are junior Rae Alexander (Georgia, Vt.), junior Lily Hayes (East Longmeadow, Mass.), sophomore Adrianna Kelsch (Bourne, Mass.) and sophomore Aisling McFadden (Erie, Pa.), among others who saw significant time a season ago.

In goal, the Beacons must replace Leah Bosch, who started 17 games and posted a .930 save percentage and a 1.81 goals-against average in 2025-26. Junior Veronika Hadamovsky (Prague, Czech Republic) started nine games last season with a .919 save percentage and a 1.88 goals-against average. Junior Virginia Curello (Cheshire, Conn.) started one game and did not allow a goal, turning aside all 12 shots she faced. Freshman Lydia Barnes (Tewksbury, Mass.) joins the competition as a third option between the pipes.

Newcomers and Transfers

The 2026-27 roster carries six freshmen and one transfer. The freshmen are Yang Chi Lin (Taipei, Taiwan), Avery Feek (McFarland, Wis.), Cianna Ho-Kuang (Richmond, BC), Alexis Hudson (Buffalo, N.Y.), Aliya Greenwood (Dedham, Mass.) and Lydia Barnes (Tewksbury, Mass.). Senior Ellie Eigner (Bowling Green, Ohio), a transfer from the University of Southern Maine, rounds out the new additions.
