LEC Announces Multiple Beacons to Men's Lacrosse Postseason Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 7, 2025) – Following the conclusion of the 2025 Little East Conference men's lacrosse season, seven members of the UMass Boston program have earned postseason honors, including two major award winners: James Boldy (Hopedale, Mass.), named LEC Goalie of the Year, and Patrick Carey (North Andover, Mass.), who earned LEC Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight season.

The Beacons' postseason haul includes three All-LEC First Team selections, four Second Team selections, and two major awards, highlighting a dominant season on both ends of the field for the Blue and White.

2025 LEC Major Awards & All-Conference Honorees

Patrick Carey LEC Defensive Player of the Year / All-LEC First Team
For the third year in a row, Carey anchored one of the conference's top defenses. Starting all 19 games, he led UMass Boston with 39 caused turnovers and 80 ground balls, while also contributing eight goals and four assists. The senior defender continues to be a cornerstone of the Beacons' defensive identity.

James BoldyLEC Goalie of the Year / All-LEC First Team
In just his second season, Boldy emerged as one of the top netminders in the LEC. He ranked third in the league in goals-against average (9.48), sixth in saves per game (9.58), and fourth in save percentage (.543). Boldy faced 561 shots, made 182 saves, and posted a 13-5 record between the pipes.

Nick Gualtieri All-LEC First Team
A graduate leader on defense, Gualtieri played a key role alongside Carey in disrupting opposing offenses. He collected 54 ground balls, caused 19 turnovers, and added four goals and two assists from the defensive end, earning his first career First Team nod.

Matt HutchingsAll-LEC Second Team
In his first season under Head Coach Tyler Low, Hutchings exploded offensively to lead the Beacons with 50 goals and 16 assists for a team-high 66 points. He ranked seventh in the LEC in goals per game and 10th in points per game.

Seth LibbyAll-LEC Second Team
Libby was a versatile threat in the midfield, finishing second on the team with 32 goals and 43 points. He added 11 assists, picked up 33 ground balls, and caused seven turnovers.

Justin McCullough – All-LEC Second Team
The veteran long-stick midfielder earns his second career postseason honor, finishing the year with 24 caused turnovers, 37 ground balls, and two assists. McCullough was a consistent presence across all five years of his UMass Boston career.

Sean Cullagh All-LEC Second Team
Appearing in all 19 games, Cullagh was second on the team with 27 caused turnovers and contributed 29 ground balls. This marks his second career All-Conference selection as a key contributor in the Beacons' defensive rotation.

With seven total honorees, including two of the LEC's top individual award winners, the Beacons cement their place among the conference's elite as they continue to build momentum for seasons ahead.
