Danbury, MA (May 3, 2025) — The UMass Boston men's lacrosse team concluded a strong season with a hard-fought appearance in the Little East Conference Championship, falling to top-seeded Western Connecticut State 22-7 on Saturday in Danbury, Connecticut.
Despite the loss, the Beacons showcased key performances from several standout players. Junior Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) capped off an outstanding season with two goals, reaching the 50-goal milestone to lead the team in scoring. Freshman Jack Schartner (Bolton, Mass.) also netted two goals, bringing his impressive rookie campaign total to 30—third most on the team.
First-year standout Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME.) continued to shine, contributing a goal and two assists. He finishes the season with 18 goals and a team-best 18 assists, establishing himself as one of the top playmakers for UMass Boston. On the defensive end, senior Sean Cullagh (Norfolk, Mass.) led the Beacons with three caused turnovers, finishing the year with 27. In goal, James Boldy (Hopedale, Mass.) made 12 saves to finish the year with 182 saves, 9.48 goals against average, and .543 save percentage.
UMass Boston executed well in several key areas, completing 23-of-25 clears and committing six fewer turnovers than the Wolves. However, a fast start by Western Connecticut State proved too much to overcome.
