Beacons Host Panthers in LEC Semifinals

Boston, MA (May 1, 2025) — After earning the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament, the UMass Boston Beacons will host Plymouth State University in a semifinal showdown at 7 p.m. on James Cotter Field — a rematch of last year's playoff clash.

Matchup History

UMass Boston and Plymouth State are no strangers to postseason drama. The Panthers ended the Beacons' season in last year's LEC semifinals with a stunning upset. However, the Beacons got some revenge earlier this year, earning a 13–7 road win. In that game, UMass Boston trailed 6–5 at halftime but responded with seven unanswered goals, dominating the second half 8–1.

UMass Boston Beacons

Riding a two-game win streak, the Beacons boast an impressive 8–1 home record this season.

  • Matt Hutchings (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) leads the team with 47 goals and 62 points. The junior is on a hot streak, netting 22 goals over his last five games.

  • Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME.), a standout rookie, has tallied 16 goals and a team-high 16 assists.

  • Patrick Carey (North Andover, Mass.) anchors the defense with a team-leading 74 ground balls and 37 caused turnovers. His 2.18 caused turnovers per game rank second in the LEC.

  • In goal, James Boldy (Hopedale, Mass.) ranks third in the conference in both goals-against average (8.62) and save percentage (.556).

Plymouth State Panthers

Plymouth State enters the semifinal riding a seven-game winning streak. Since their last loss — to UMass Boston on March 28 — the Panthers have been on a tear.

  • The Panthers are dominant at home (7–1), but less consistent on the road (4–3).

  • Crosby Fay leads the LEC in goals per game (3.20), with 48 goals in 15 contests.

  • Ethan Schena anchors the defense with the best goals-against average (7.59) and save percentage (.617) in the conference.
