Beacons Falls on the Road to JWU

Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 26, 2025) – The UMass Boston baseball team (10-6) was the first to score, posting two runs in the third inning against the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats (11-8). However, a rally in the sixth inning by the Wildcats gave them the lead for good, and the Beacons fell on the road.

The UMass Boston pitching staff used eight pitchers in the effort, with Ross Dexter (Milton, Mass.) leading the way with a team-high five strikeouts in the first four innings. Hunter Ward (Nashua, N.H.) and Ben Cherry (Manchester, Conn.) each struck out three batters in one inning of action.

Jacob Levine (Easton, Mass.) scored the first run of the game in the third inning with an RBI single to first base, driving in Richard Williams (Georgetown, Mass.). Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.) doubled the Beacons' tally with an RBI single through the left gap, scoring Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.) to make it 2-0 UMass Boston heading into the home half of the inning.

The Wildcats responded in the fourth inning with two runs on one hit to even the score before ultimately pulling away with the sixth-inning rally.

Bostyn Burris (Highland Village, Tex.) led off the seventh inning with a walk and later scored on an error at first base while attempting to throw Levine out.

By the Numbers:

  • Levine led five Beacons in the hit column with two hits in three at-bats, including one of two UMass Boston RBIs and a double. With tonight's RBI, Levine ranks third on the team with 13 RBIs, including his tenth in the last five days against three different opponents.

  • Gaer went 1-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks and an RBI.

Who's Next: The Beacons return home to Monan Park tomorrow (March 27) to face the Western New England University Golden Bears at 3:00 p.m. Follow along on the UMass Boston Official Athletics Website for live coverage.
