Beacons Ground Falcons in South Carolina

Box Score

Charleston, SC (Mar. 18, 2025) — The UMass Boston Beacons defeated the Pfeiffer University Falcons 12-8 in the second game of their Spring Break trip.

How It Happened
The Beacons came out strong, scoring the first three goals of the game in under a minute and outscoring the Falcons 6-1 in the opening quarter. Jack Schartner (Bolton, Mass.) got the Beacons on the board first at 12:34, and Matt Laverty (Barnstable, Mass.) doubled the lead just 10 seconds later. Tyler Hilgert (Guilford, CT.) extended the advantage to three at 11:42. Although the Falcons responded with a goal, the Beacons kept the pressure on, with Hilgert netting his second of the game. Cole Allan (Falmouth, ME.) and Shane McGonagle (Haverhill, Mass.) added the Beacons' fifth and sixth goals, respectively, to give UMass Boston a commanding 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Allan gave UMass Boston an early 7-1 lead, before Pfeiffer's Khyler Johnson and the Beacon's Carson Meczywor (Adams, Mass.) traded goals. The Falcons then went on a four-goal run, cutting the Beacons' lead to just two goals, 8-6, heading into halftime.

However, UMass Boston didn't let the Falcons build on that momentum. The Beacons came out strong in the second half, scoring the first three goals. Patrick Carey (North Andover, Mass.) kicked things off, followed by Caesar Hendricks (Mashpee, Mass.) less than 30 seconds later. Nick Gualtieri (Billerica, Mass.) extended the lead to 11-6, before Schartner netted his second goal of the game, securing the Beacons' 12-8 victory.
