KINGSTON, R.I. (February 8, 2025) – The UMass Boston women's track team tested their metal in an All-Region (NCAA DI, DII, DIII) meet from the University of Rhode Island Coaches Invitational in Kingston, R.I. The Beacons fared well, with five top-ten finishes and eight new personal bests, with two weeks remaining in the indoor season.
The Beacons' showing in Kingston saw additional Beacons move into qualifying standards for the Little East Conference Championships in Gorham, ME, in two weeks.
Junior
Aryianna Garceau (Dalton, Mass.) and senior
Dorinda Okorji (Maynard, Mass.) represented four UMass Boston sprinters in the 60m finals, with Garceau taking third in 7.77 seconds, followed by Okorji in 8.00s. Garceau finished before three NCAA DI sprinters (Bryant, the College of the Holy Cross, and New Hampshire University).
Elizabeth Roy (Abington, Mass.) listed an 8.38 in the preliminary rounds, followed by first-year
Jania Cooper (Lynn, Mass.) in 8.87s.
Senior
Harleen Bassan (Northampton, Mass.) represented the Beacons in the 400m dash with a 1:08.36s finish.
Junior
Jacqueline Earner (Abington, Mass.) and first-year
Kylee Browning (Attleboro, Mass.) doubled up in the 800m dash, with Earner finishing 10
th overall in 2:26.75s, finishing before six DI, and two DII competitors. Browning finished with a new personal record in 2:43.30s, good for 20
th in the LEC.
The Beacons' historic duo of junior
Shea Roche (Weymouth, Mass.) and
Grace Colon (West Roxbury, Mass.) doubled up in the women's 3,000m, each registering new personal bests with Roche finishing ninth in 10:51.59s, good for second in the LEC, followed by Colon in 11:10.42s, good for 13
th in the conference.
From the jumper's runway, Okorji dropped a personal record in the long jump, with a sixth-place 5.40m (17 feet, 8.5 inches) best and a season-opening 9.74m (31 feet, 11.46 inches) mark in the triple jump, suitable for 11
th in the conference. Okorji's 5.40m LJ personal record currently has her second in the conference. Senior
Jhenelle Evans (Milton, Mass.) followed Okorji in the women's long jump with a 4.40m (14 feet, 5.2 inches) best.
The women's throwing unit had a day with five new personal records. First-year Katelyn Tuohy led five Beacons across the women's shotput and weight throw with two personal bests, while also qualifying for the LEC Championship meet. From the shotput circle, Tuohy registered a 10.10m (33 feet, 1.75 inches) best for a new PR and a conference 13
th best. Junior
Delaney Sartwell (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and first-year
Isadora Teodoro Marques (Billerica, Mass.) followed suit with personal bests. Sartwell was just behind Tuohy with a 10.07m (33 feet, 0.5 inches) best, good for 17
th in the LEC. Marques listed a new PR of 9.59m (31 ft, 5.75 in.) in the shotput circle.
From the weight throw cage, Tuohy led Marcques and junior
Abigail Schell with a new PR of 10.44m (34 ft, 3 in.), followed by Marques with a 9.86m throw, and Schell with an 8.89m (29 ft, 2 in.) mark.
Select Beacons will compete a final time next week at the Boston University Valentine Meet on Friday, February 14 at the BU Valentine Invitational, before gearing in for the LEC Championships the following week at the University of Rhode Island in Providence, R.I.
