SPRINGFIELD, MA (January 25, 2025) – The UMass Boston women's track and field team took fourth place out of seven competing teams from the Massasoit Classic in Springfield College through eight top-three finishers for UMass Boston, and several key performances that continue to set up the Beacs on the conference stage.
On the track, the Beacons won four events with first-place finishers.
Aryianna Garceau (Dalton, Mass.) took first in the women's 60m dash (7.84s) and the 60m hurdles (8.80s). Junior
Shea Roche (Weymouth, Mass.) took first in the women's mile with a new career-best 5:32.97. Junior
Jacqueline Earner (Abington, Mass.) took first in the women's 800m dash with a season-best of 2:23.23.
Dorinda Okorji represented UMass Boston in the field events. She took first in the women's long jump with a season-best 5.31m (17 feet, 5.25 inches), and also took second in the women's high jump with a 1.56m clearing mark.
Senior
Jhenelle Evans scored 14 points with a second-place finish in the women's 60m dash behind Garcea, with an 8.21s finish, and also took third in the 200m dash with a new personal record of 28.15s. She now ranks sixth on the conference level in the 60m dash.
Senior pole-vaulter
Mackenzie Jorgensen picked up three points in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 2.35m (seven feet, 8.5 inches).
First-year
Kylee Browning (Attleboro, Mass.) picked up a point in the 800m dash with Earner for an eighth-place finish and a new PR.
First-year Katelyn Tuohy made her collegiate debut in the women's shotput, and led the Beacons' throwing unit in the event with a 9.35m (30 feet, 8.25 inches) heave. Joining Tuohy was senior Allesandra Albano (Haverhill, Mass.) who picked up a new career-best in the event with a 7.54m (24 feet, nine inches) throw.
As a team, the sprinters scored 18 points, Gacreau picked up 10 points in the hurdles, the distance squad raked in 27 points, and Okorji represented the jumps crew with 21 points. The women's 4x400m relay nabbed six points to round out the team scoring.
The Beacons will travel to Northampton, MA, next Saturday, February 1, for the Smith College Invitational.
