WALTHAM, MA. (January 17, 2025) – The Beacons' women's track and field team took fifth overall at the Reggie Payou Memorial Invitational out of ten competing teams. They had seven top-eight finishers to register points and multiple performances that leveled up their standings on the Little East Conference rankings.
Coach's Corner:
The Beacons' head coach, Ozzie Brown, reacted positively to the meet, stating,

"It was a great first meet back for the women, who were able to crack the top five. Our women are beginning to sharpen up with several top-five finishes, which helps us on the conference level. Garceau [Aryianna] is beginning to show her versatility in competition, as she took first place in two of her off-events. Dorinda [Okorji] was just behind her with two second-place finishes. The Biggest 'WOW' of the meet, Shea Roche, dropped 24 seconds off her previous 3,000m time to place fourth."

Notables:

• Junior Aryianna Garceau (Dalton, Mass.) had her hand in 29 of the Beacons' 61 total points. She scored 10 points with a first-place finish in the 60m dash with a new personal best of 7.76s, which currently has her at 21^st in NCAA Division III for the event. In the women's long jump, Garceau took first overall with a personal best of 5.16m.
• Dorinda Okorji (Maynard, Mass.) added 16 points with two second-place finishes in the women's high jump with a 1.51m mark and the women's long jump with a 5.03m mark.
• Shea Roche's (Weymouth, Mass.) personal best of 10:53.98 was good for fourth place out of 26 competitors for five points in the women's 3,000m run. Senior captain Grace Colon (West Roxbury, Mass.) also recorded a personal best in the event with an 11:27.00 for 13^th overall.
• Jhenelle Evans (Milton, Mass.) joined Garceau in the 60m dash and finished sixth overall in 8.19s for three points.
• Jacqueline Earner (Abington, Mass.) represented the Beacons in the 1,000m dash and took fourth overall with 3:10.52s for five points in the event.
• Harleen Bassan (Northampton, Eng.) represented UMass Boston in the 300m dash, and took 13^th overall with a new personal best of 47.81s in the event,
• Senior Mackenzie Jorgensen recorded a season-best in the women's pole vault with a 2.35m vault to take sixth place for three points.
• Junior Delaney Sartwell (East Bridgewater, Mass.) registered a new personal-best in the women's shot put with an 8.99m heave, smashing her previous record by 0.56m.
• The women's 4x200m relay team consisting of Garceau, Okorji, Evans, and senior Elizabeth Roy (Abington, Mass.) scored five points with a season-best fourth-place finish of 1:51.26s.
• The 4x400m relay team consisting of Earner, first-year Kylee Browning (Attleboro, Mass.), Bassan, and Garceau took sixth place with a 4:45.45s finish to add four points to the team's totals.

Following their positive showing at the Reggie Payou Invitational, the Beacons will carry the momentum into next week's competition when they travel to Springfield, MA, for the Springfield College Massasoit Classic on Saturday, January 25.
