BOSTON, MA (July 25, 2024) -- Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Jacqueline Schuman has announced the appointment of Rebekah (Becky) Schoenecker as the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
"I am thrilled to welcome Becky to our UMass Boston community," said Schuman. "Becky has extensive experience in college athletics, and I am excited that she will be bringing that depth of knowledge to our campus to help us elevate our department and university."
Schoenecker comes to UMass Boston with 13 years of experience producing broadcasts and creating video content at the NCAA Division I level and in minor-league soccer.
Schoenecker served as the Manager of Athletic Multimedia and Production for the last four years at Brown University. While at Brown, Schoenecker was the liaison for ESPN, NESN, NCAA, Learfield, and local and national media outlets to deliver high-quality content representing Brown's 34 varsity teams. She expanded the implementation of branded materials to market all Brown teams via digital platforms utilizing graphic design, photography, and video production. Additionally, Schoenecker was responsible for recruiting, scheduling, training, evaluating, and budgeting for more than 30 full-time, seasonal, student, and freelance workers.
"I would like to thank the search committee and Dr. Jacqueline Schuman for this opportunity. It's an exciting time to be a part of the Beacon Athletics family, and I can't wait to showcase the talent of our student-athletes not just in the Little East Conference and NEHC but regionally and across the NCAA!" said Schoenecker.
Before Brown, Schoenecker spent 2015 to 2019 at Robert Morris University as the Video Coordinator. In this role, she storyboarded, shot, and edited promotional videos for various athletic teams and feature videos highlighting student-athletes academic, athletic, and extracurricular accomplishments. She was also part of designing and building the new video board display and control room at the UPMC Events Center. She designed, programmed, built, and managed various video boards during live events, including fan cameras, interactive displays, and informative motion graphics.
From 2011 to 2016, Schoenecker was the Video Replay Operator for the Pittsburg Riverhounds SC of the United Soccer League (USL). With the Riverhounds, she provided live in-game replays to the in-stadium video board and the web-based live stream. Additionally, she created post-game melts of games and highlights for the USL.
In her new role, Schoenecker will lead all areas of the Athletic Communications Department, including broadcast, stats, press releases, website maintenance, and creative content. She will serve as the primary media contact for the Division of Athletics and Recreation and establish and foster relationships with sports reporters from local, regional, university, and national media organizations.
Schoenecker will lead, supervise, and direct the Beacon Broadcast Network. She will recruit and hire play-by-play talent, implement additional multi-camera broadcasts, and create video content for our 19 teams.
Schoenecker graduated from Robert Morris University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration in TV and video production.
Schoenecker will begin her tenure with the Beacons on August 5th, 2024.
