BOSTON, MA (May 17, 2024) – The month of May is recognized as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. As UMass Boston Athletics continues its commitment to celebrating it's student-athletes of diverse cultures and backgrounds, Jamie Lin, a sophomore defender and long-stick midfielder on the Beacons' men's lacrosse team, was able to provide personal insights into his background.  

Lin is of Taiwanese descent and is the only Asian-American player on the men's lacrosse team.  Lin says it was his parents who inspired him to pick up the stick and play lacrosse and the diversity of the student population and campus community that inspired him to attend UMass Boston.   

Lin has deep admiration for one of Hollywood's most iconic action stars. "One of my heroes is Jackie Chan, an actor who made many appearances in movies I watched as a child as well as the  

man my dad chose to name himself after when he immigrated to the United States.".  

Like his father and Jackie Chan, Lin continues to carve out a role for himself on the Beacons men's lacrosse team through hard work, consistency, and dedication to his craft. When asked what motivates him to strive for greatness on and off the field, Lin replied, "Being able to visit family back in Taiwan and see their support for me has pushed me to pursue my education and athletics.". Lin uses the support from his family overseas as fuel for the fire behind his explosiveness on the field.  

Lin takes pride in his heritage, and during Chinese holidays, he honors his roots with traditional foods and celebrations that remind him of his cultural origins.  

In his sophomore season for the Beacons, Lin played in seven games, caused two turnovers, and scooped up seven loose balls as a pivotal spark in the Beacons' defense off the bench.
