MYRTLE BEACH, SC (May 25, 2024) – Sophomore triple threat on the Beacons' women's track and field team,
Aryianna Garceau, took sixth place in the women's 100m hurdle finals for the program's 20
th All-American winner in its history, the first since 2018.
Garceau qualified for the 100m hurdle finals with a blistering 13.97 in the second heat of preliminary races on Friday, May 24. Garceau's wind-legal 13.97 will register as her new personal record heading into the next outdoor season, just 0.17 seconds off the 35-year-old school record. Her preliminary run and heat two victory solidified her first career All-American following an automatic bid into the finals heat. Garceau won her heat outright, containing sprinters from Amherst College, the University of Chicago, and Washington University.
On Saturday, following a three-hour rain delay, Garceau and the field rallied to the starter's line after a passing storm. In less-than-ideal conditions, Garceau laced together a 14.05s finish for sixth overall amongst the nation's fastest DIII hurdlers, her third fastest finish of the season. Garceau represented the harbor campus on the brightest of stages and shined brightly in her two days at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. Over the first three hurdles, Garceau remained on the hip of national champion Laura Matthews.
As just a sophomore, Garceau returns home from the biggest stage in DIII track and field with some hardware, and some history for her trophy case, as Garceau will look to make it back-to-back next season.
Garceau and the Beacons' track and field team will take a heavily earned break before picking back up for summer training ahead of the fall cross-country season.
