BOSTON, MA (November 6, 2024) – Following the conclusion of the 2024 Little East Conference regular season, the Beacons enter the LEC Semis following a first round bye as the No.2 seed with a 6-0-2 conference record. They will play host to the third-seeded Anchormen of Rhode Island College on Thursday, November 7, at noon, from the BC High Junior Varsity Fields.
Round One:
- The Anchormen (11-6-1, 6-2 LEC) advance to round two against the Beacons, following their 3-2 overtime thriller against Vermont State University Castleton (7-7-5, 3-5-1 LEC). Anthony Recinos was a pioneer for R.I.C in the win, assisting on the first two goals in the 21st and 33rd minute, followed by a 98th minute game winner in overtime.
Previously:
- The last matchup between Rhode Island College and UMass Boston saw the Beacons victorious on the road from Providence, R.I on October 5. Seniors Diego Gisholt (Tijuana, Mex.) and Logan Erickson Potter (Swansea, Mass.) combined for two goals to give the Beacons the necessary push. The UMass Boston defense was suffocating in the previous matchup, holding the Anchormen to just three total shots. Then, Erickson Potter's goal was his second of the season. Since then, he has provided an extra three, and has totaled six assists for a team-high 16 points this season.
- Historically, the Beacons are 22-23-3 against the Anchormen, and have won the previous two matchups (2-1, 4-2). In their previous seven against R.I.R, the Beacons are undefeated including seven wins, the most significant in 2023 (4-2). On their home turf, the Beacs are 14-10-3 vs the Anchormen, and average 1.58 goals in 48 meetings (76 total goals.).
This Season:
- For UMass Boston, defense has been the name of the game that has propelled them to the LEC #2 seed. In their final seven games, UMass Boston outscored their opponents 19-0, as the Beacons ended the season with seven consecutive shutouts. Goal scoring has been fruitful for the Beacons, led by Erickson Potter and first-year forward Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Bra.) with five goals each. Sophomores Rafael Gross (Minas Gerais, Bra.) and Patrick Garcia (Brookline, Mass.) join senior Josh DeAlmeida (Revere, Mass.) as sharp offensive threats, each with four timely goals this season, scoring when the game needs it most. DeAlmeida and Erickson Potter most recently scored on Senior Day, October 29, vs Fitchburg State, each adding one in a 4-0 onslaught. Gross most recently scored a brace (two goals) in a 5-0 routing over the University of Southern Maine. The Beacons' back line of Max Mian (Barcelona, Spa.), Ian Visnick (Beverly, Mass.), Gisholt and Erickson Potter have done a stellar job at maintaining the back line. In 16 games, the Beacons' defensive wall has held opponents to .56 goals per game on an average of 10.3 shots per game. Graduate goalkeeper Andy Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) has cemented himself as one of the conference's best, leading the LEC in goals allowed average (.508), and save percentage (.891). In 14 games played and over 1000 minutes, he remains undefeated (9-0-3) against 94 shots (six goals allowed) for nine combined shutouts.
