BOSTON, MA (October 15, 2024)—The UMass Boston men's soccer team will play host to Little East Conference opponents, the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine (USM), on Wednesday afternoon, October 16. The Beacons look to stay in form following a three-game win streak over LEC counterparts.
Previously:
- The last time the Beacons fell at the hands of Southern Maine was in 2012, when the Huskies overcame the Beacons 1-0. Since then, the Beacons have won 11 straight over the Huskies. The Beacons average 2.39 goals against them and are 14-6-1 on their home turf vs USM. Last matchup saw the Beacons prevail 2-1 on the road in 2023. Diego Gisholt (Tijuana, Mex.), then a junior back, and sophomore forward John Arruda (Espirito Santo, Bra.) each found twine to send the Huskies packing. Arruda and Gisholt both return this year, and will look to repeat history on Wednesday.
This Season:
- The Beacons this season are 5-1-4 (3-0-1 LEC.) and are currently on an eight-game unbeaten streak, with their last loss coming against Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday, September 3. Since then, the Beacons are 3-0-4, with all three of their wins coming against LEC opponents. Their last victory over the Keene State Owls was their most significant of the season, running up an offensive onslaught 5-0, with five different goal scorers. Graduate netminder Andy Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) has taken primary responsibilities between the posts for the Beacons and has made 22 saves against 43 shots on his way to a 4-0-2 record. Ramirez has allowed six goals in eight starts for a goals-against average of .99. Goal scoring has come from a variety of contributors for UMass Boston. However, first-year forward Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Bra.), senior back Logan Erickson Potter (Swansea, Mass.), and senior Josh DeAlmeida (Revere, Mass.) each lead the way with three goals in the season's campaign. Erickson Potter leads the team in season points with eight, off three goals and two assists.
- The Huskies this season are 1-6-6 (0-2-2 LEC.) and have lost their last two consecutive against Rhode Island College (2-1), and Thomas College (1-0). First-years Aldo Bryant and Gabe Wagner share goalkeeping duties for the Huskies. Bryant has gone 1-2-4 through five games started, has faced 57 shots while registering 34 saves for a .739 save percentage, and has allowed 12 goals. Wagner has gone 0-4-2 in eight games started, has registered 25 saves against 52 shots, and has allowed 12 goals thus far. Offensively, the Huskies only have two players with more then two goals this season. Sophomore defender Liam Conneely, and junior midfielder Kristof Manni, who each hold three goals thus far. Sophomore midfielder Jack Brady is the pioneer in the middle, serving three assists for a team high.
