BOSTON, MA (January 21, 2024) – The UMass Boston women's track and field team competed in select open and invite-only events this Sunday from Harvard University, in the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational from Cambridge, MA. The Beacons had runners competing in nine different events with top-three finishes in both the high jump and the long jump. Sophomore mid-distance sprinter
Jacqueline Earner doubled in the 800m and the one-mile invitational heats and ran well with the meet's best talents.
First-year
Hialeah Foster tripled in the open 200m dash, the 4x220 yard relay, and the open long jump, finishing with a new personal record in the 200m (28.69) and in the long jump (5.23m – 17' 2"). Earner placed seventh among the other invitees in the 800m, registering a finish in 2:31.5. Also stepping up for the 800m open races was junior Sarah Cambell (2:53.48), junior
Harleen Bassan (2:58.68) and first-year
Amiya Sharp (3:04.52). Beacons' junior
Grace Colon represented UMass Boston in the 1000m run, finishing sixth in 3:31.06. Earner followed up her performance in the 800m invitational with a sixth-place finish and a new personal best in the one-mile invitational race, with Earner covering the distance in 5:19.78. Cambell, Sharp, and Colon also tightened up the spikes for the one-mile open races, with Colon finishing first amongst the three with a 5:50.83 finish – good for 11
th overall – followed by Cambell who finished in 6:15.49, and Sharp who cleared in 7:08.02.
Up next was the first relay bid of the Beacons' squad this year as Foster and Sharp, along with junior pole-vaulter
Mackenzie Jorgensen and sophomore
Delaney Sartwell participated in an unconventional 4x220 yard relay, clocking in a 2:16.0 finish.
As she continues to soar this season, junior
Dorinda Okorji took first place in the women's high jump, clearing a new personal best of 1.55m (5' 1"). Okorji and Foster represented UMass Boston on the long jump runway, with the tandem placing fourth, and first respectively. Foster finished first out of 15 competitors with her new 5.23m best, as Okorji took fourth with a jump of 4.77m (15' 7.75").
Closing out the day for the Beacons was the duo of junior
Cayla Jean-Louise Sartwell, who represented the Beacons from the thrower's circle, with Jean-Lousie marking an 8.26m (27' 1.25") throw, followed by Sartwell, who registered a 7.92 (26') throw.
