Women’s Track and Field Competes At Suffolk Relays

 
BOSTON, MA (December 2, 2023) – The UMass Boston women's track and field team opened their 2023/24 indoor season this past weekend from Suffolk, MA as they participated in the Suffolk Relays against top competing teams such as Division I Northeastern, and Merrimack College. The Beacons use this meet as a good opportunity to benchmark their progress from the beginning of the season.

Sprints:

60M Dash: Aryianna Garceau led the way for the Beacons' sprint squad, finishing the 60 in 8.15 seconds, good for a 16th overall finish through preliminaries. Also competing in the 60 was Hialeah Foster (8.49), Angelina Cabral (9.35), Kelsy Duong (9.84), and Cayla Jean- Louis (11.02), as the Beacs showed out in numbers in the 60M dash.

200M Dash: Garceau took care of business in the 200 for the Beacons once again, clocking in a 26.91 finish, good for 13th overall out of 71 competing sprinters. Dorinda Okorji finished just behind her with a 27.19-second finish, good for 16th overall.  

400M Dash: Harleen Bassan laced up for the Beacons in the 400-meter dash, as she opened her season with a 1:09.10 finish, good for 23rd out of 33 total.

Distance:

One Mile: Jacqueline Earner lit up the field in the one mile, finishing 7th overall in 5:23.03 out of 46 total runners, and first for the Beacons in the event. Not far behind her was Sarah Cambell, who clocked a 6:07.97 finish, good for 27th overall.

5000: Stretching out the range in the 5000 meter race was Grace Colon, as she finished in 20:02.9, good for 15th out of 22 competitors.

Jumps:

Pole Vault: Mackenzie Jorgensen opened her season with a 2.30 meter clearance in the pole vault to open up her progression for this season.

Long Jump: Following her performance in the 200-meter dash, Okorji moved on to the long jump pit, as she represented the Beacons on the runway, registering a 4.74 best on the day.

Throws:

Weight Throw: Abigail Schell represented the Beacons in the throwers circle, as she opened her season with a 9.25 mark to start out her progression this season.

The Beacons will lace up the spikes again next Saturday, December 9th from the Track at New Balance in Boston, MA as the act as meet hosts for other competing teams. Results can be found at UMass Boston - Official Athletics Website (beaconsathletics.com).
