Western New England Outlasts Baseball

Luke Leavitt recorded his first career home run in the 17-11 loss

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Western New England scored at-least one run in every inning but two as they handed baseball their second straight loss in the form of a 17-11 decision Thursday afternoon at Trelease Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

WNEU was able to plate at-least one run against all six Beacons pitchers that stepped on the hill in Wednesday's non-conference contest. After allowing two-runs in the top half of the first, the Golden Bears never trailed after that scoring four-runs in the bottom of the same inning.

UMass cut the deficit to one with a one-run second, while holding the Golden Bears off the scoreboard.

Western New England would then tack on 10 runs over the next four frames to take a 14-10 lead. UMass Boston's final run came in the seventh, but WNEU was not done yet as they put-up three more insurance runs to clinch the victory.

Luke Leavitt had one of his best days at the plate finished 3-for-4 with three RBI a run scored and a home run. Drew Metzdorf also went yard with his second home run in the last 24 hours.

Kevin Carrera had two of the Beacons five doubles, as he finished with a pair of runs and two RBI.

Jackson Snider was handed the loss after allowing four runs on three hits, while also walking three batters.

WHO'S NEXT

The Beacons will now host Castleton University on Saturday in a Little East Conference doubleheader. The Beacons will be the visiting team for both games. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. at Monan Park.
