Mazzone, Women's Indoor Track Have Strong Showing at Suffolk Relays


BOSTON, Mass. – In the first competition of their 2022-23 season, UMass Boston Women's Indoor Track competed in the Suffolk Relays on Saturday, finishing 5th overall and second among NCAA Division III teams at the meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
 
Sophomore Dorinda Okorji scored five points for UMass Boston, finishing 4th overall in the Women's 60 Meter Finals with a time of 8.12, just .12 seconds behind Merrimack College junior Jahaida Gabriel.

Freshman Angelina Mazzone turned in a strong debut performance in the Women's 600 Meter Run, finishing 2nd overall behind fellow freshman Emily Green from Emmanuel College in a time of 1:58.60 to get eight points for UMass Boston. Mazzone was just under a second behind Green's 1:57.34 finish for the win.

Sophomore Harleen Bassan came in 12 seconds off the pace in the Women's 800 Meter Run, finishing 3rd overall in a time of 2:46.62 to record six points for the Beacons.

Freshman Jacqueline Earner debuted in the Women's 1,000 Meter Run and placed 4th overall in a time of 3:35:08 to give UMass Boston five more points to their afternoon total. Earner also competed in the mile run, placing 12th overall in a time of 5:51:97.

The Beacons continue their Indoor Track & Field season in Boston, competing in the UMass Boston Indoor Open at New Balance next Saturday.
