Player of the Week - Midfielder Cristian Suvak
Senior midfielder
Cristian Suvak was named Most Outstanding Player in the LEC Tournament after UMass Boston took home their fourth LEC Championship in penalty kicks on Saturday afternoon. Playing in the midfield, Suvak played an important role on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball for the Beacons to help them keep top-seeded WestConn scoreless on Saturday and leading the comeback charge for UMass Boston in the LEC Semifinals against Eastern Connecticut.
Defensive Player of the Week - Defender Diego Gisholt
Sophomore defender
Diego Gisholt was the backbone of the UMass Boston defense throughout the Little East Conference Tournament, playing all 220 minutes on the pitch for the Beacons. Gisholt came up with some key defensive stops in the middle of the defensive zone during his team's 4-3 victory in overtime against Eastern Connecticut in the LEC Semifinals and was key in keeping top-seeded WestConn off the scoreboard in the LEC Championship. Gisholt also tacked on an assist off his corner kick that led to junior forward
Josh DeAlmeida's game-tying goal in overtime versus the Warriors. The sophomore also netted his penalty kick in the LEC Championship Game.
Goalkeeper of the Week - Goalkeeper Qasim El-Ashkar
Junior goalkeeper
Qasim El-Ashkar came away with a 2-0-0 week for the Beacons after making some key saves and defensive stands against Eastern Connecticut on Thursday in the LEC Semifinals and then holding top-seeded WestConn scoreless in 110 minutes on Saturday in the LEC Championship Game. Most notably, El-Ashkar made a stop against freshman defender Lex Edwards in the final seconds of the first overtime frame to keep the game tied at three. In total, El-Ashkar accounted for eight saves across 220 minutes and stopped two of the four WestConn penalty kicks.
Rookie of the Week - Forward Ryan Lima
Freshman forward
Ryan Lima earned his first Rookie of the Week honor after playing 183 minutes for UMass Boston over the past week and netting the game-tying goal in the 85th minute against Eastern Connecticut in the LEC Semifinals last Thursday. Lima also scored on his first career penalty kick against WestConn, faking left before going right on the Wolves' goalie during the third round to help knot the shootout at two goals a piece.
